I'm not a hiking enthusist, but I do hike occasionally. This hike really kicked my butt. Its about 2600 feet of vertical gain over 4.2 miles (if you route through Ice Lakes first). It took me about 3… Full review by 485maggieg

The trail head is 6.3 miles west of Silverton CO, along South Fork Mineral Creek, just shy of South Mineral Campground. It is readily accessible with a non-four-wheel-drive vehicle. Take U.S. 550 (the "Million Dollar Highway") northwest out of Silverton, then take road 585 on the left (2.1 miles out of Silverton). Stay on 585 for 4.2 miles, parking is on the right.
