The employment status of two Eastern Shore teachers linked to posts about the death of Charlie Kirk remains unclear, while a third has returned to work.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously to Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA who was fatally shot last month while speaking at Utah Valley University. The ceremony, held in the White House Rose Garden, coincided with what would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday.

The U.S. will honor Charlie Kirk with a day of remembrance on Oct. 14, and President Donald Trump plans to give the slain conservative activist the Medal of Freedom at a White House celebration. Last week, the president said Erika Kirk would accept the award on behalf of her late husband at an evening event in the East Room.

In Miami-Dade alone, eight teachers are currently under investigation for posts parents or administrators flagged as politically-charged, according to the school district. One of them is Mayade Ersoff, a teacher at Palmetto Middle School who told the Herald she wasn't even sure which post on her social media was flagged to the district or why.

Those messages surfaced and were recently confirmed as authentic, giving new insight into what was on Kirk’s mind before his death.
