Tropical Storm Lorenzo gained strength Monday but remains poorly organized over the central Atlantic as it battles storm-hindering wind shear.

A powerful tropical wind and rainstorm affect the mid-Atlantic coast with major coastal flooding, power outages and significant travel delays. Storm surge could be some of the worst since Sandy in some areas.

The Atlantic is seeing tropical and subtropical activity from two storms, one of which barely had a chance of formation within the next seven days.
