In March 2012, VTA opened the first express lane facility at the Route 237 and Interstate 880 interchange in Milpitas as part of the comprehensive Silicon Valley Express Lanes Program.

A portion of state Route 237 restriped in an effort to smooth vehicle access for motorists heading westbound from Milpitas will keep that configuration following a six-month trial.
