Republican Mike Braun has won the Indiana governor’s race. He defeated Democrat Jennifer McCormick and extended the GOP’s 20-year-hold on the state’s top office.

Rainwater has run for governor in the past. In 2020, he came in third with just 11.4% of the vote. His campaign promises to make Indiana's state government smaller, including a four-year budget freeze. He hopes to eliminate the state's individual income tax and personal property tax on residents' primary residence.

Braun represented Indiana State House District 63 from 2014-17. He defeated Democratic incumbent Joe Donnelly for U.S. Senate in 2018. He is president and CEO of Meyer Distributing, and nonpartisan non-profit OpenSecrets valued his net worth as more than $136 million in 2018.

Former President Donald Trump won Indiana, but the presidential results remained uncertain at 11 p.m. Wednesday. As of 11 p.m., AP had yet to call the Indiana 1st Congressional District election of Democrat Frank Mrvan vs.
