Most fans saw Jey Uso winning the Royal Rumble as a major surprise but WWE was ready to take a risk on the "Main Event".

The Royal Rumble is one of the most highly-anticipated events on the WWE calendar. From its debut as a TV special in 1988 to turning into a staple of WWE's PLE schedule, the Rumble is a fan favourite show.

Following his brother's 2025 WWE Royal Rumble win, Jimmy Uso congratulated his brother, Jey Uso. He took to Instagram to share a video of him backstage waiting for his brother. Jimmy was holding a T-shirt celebrating Jey's Royal Rumble win. Once Jey got backstage, he said, “2025 Royal Rumble winner. Well deserved, Uce. It is you.”

Jey Uso secured his first-ever Royal Rumble victory on Saturday, outlasting 29 other superstars in a dramatic conclusion that saw him eliminate John Cena. Cena and Uso were the final two competitors in the 30-man match. Cena appeared to have sealed the win after throwing Uso over the ropes, but the wrestler clung on, narrowly avoiding elimination.

WWE Royal Rumble Jey Uso shocked spectators by winning the men's main event which became one of the least predicted finishes in WWE history. Uso joined the match as the 20th contestant and beat CM Punk and John Cena to make WrestleMania 41.

In a new interview, Jey Uso revealed when he was told he would win the 2025 Royal Rumble. And it makes it seem like he may have not been the original choice to win the event’s top match. WWE’s Men’s Royal Rumble has had many surprising winners during its history.
