Newark Airport's new AirTrain fleet will include seven five-car trains, each carrying 135 to 160 passengers—more than doubling the current capacity.

A total of 60 flights had been delayed at Newark Airport as of 11:06 a.m. on Oct. 9, according to FlightAware, which tracks cancellations and delays at airports around the world. FlightAware reported a total of 235 delays at Newark Liberty International Airport on Oct. 6.

The Port Authority launched construction on the $3.5B AirTrain Newark, a 2.5-mile system set to modernize airport transit by 2030.

Air traffic controllers are considered essential workers and continue to work throughout the shutdown without pay until Congress can reach a middle ground.
