The official U.S. Census count for the population of Richmond in 2000 was 197,790, a drop of over 5,000 from 1990’s count of 203,056.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State Homeland Security Secretary Rob Cunningham says West Virginia’s request for federal disaster assistance in connection with the recent flooding is different than the initial immediate request from the State of Kentucky.

Areas hardest hit were concentrated around parts of eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia that had already seen up to twice their normal precipitation so far this winter.
