For the second time this year, Southern Californians are evacuating their homes as heavy rain threatens new destruction in places still recovering from last month’s devastating wildfires.

The storm prompted evacuation orders, as officials warned of flash floods in burn-scarred areas near the Eaton and Palisades fires and cautioned drivers to stay off the roads.

A Los Angeles Fire Department vehicle was swept into the Pacific Ocean during a storm in Malibu on Thursday. Officials said road conditions were especially dangerous in areas affected by the wildfires last month.
