More than 6,000 acres have burned in Alabama wildfires over the past week, according to the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC).

Fire dangers and the risk of rapidly spreading wildfires return to the Triad and most of North Carolina this week.

"As of right now, evacuations are still voluntary for those in the affected areas of this fire," the agency said.

First responders’ hard work is paying off with the Carolina Forest wildfire now 60% contained with no new spread.
