MCALLEN, Texas – Tomorrow, Sept. 17, is National Voter Registration Day, a day designated to focus attention and efforts on registering new voters across the country in advance of the Nov. 5 general election. Citizens must register to vote by Oct. 7 in Texas in order to vote in the November election.

Johnson County’s election commissioner estimates that only 1 in 5 voter registrations his office has received are from new voters. Some are duplicates from people already registered.
