Gov. Jared Polis is calling for the resignation of Pueblo Coroner Brian Cotter following the discovery of decomposing human remains at Davis Mortuary.

Governor Jared Polis called for Pueblo County Coroner Brian Cotter to resign immediately on Friday. This comes after authorities announced an investigation into Cotter on Thursday, accusing him of hiding decomposing bodies in his funeral home.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation scheduled a news conference for updates on the Davis Mortuary investigation at 1 p.m. Friday. A multi-agency criminal investigation is underway after state inspectors found "around 20" decomposing bodies hidden inside a private funeral home owned by Brian Cotter,

Gov. Jared Polis demanded the immediate resignation of the Pueblo County coroner, who’s accused of “gross misconduct” and giving fake cremains to families. The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies’ Division of Professions and Occupations reportedly found several bodies in various stages of decomposition at Davis Mortuary in Pueblo.

The owner told inspectors that some of the bodies found at his funeral home had been waiting to be cremated for years.
