Ron Turcotte, the jockey who rode the legendary Secretariat to the Triple Crown in 1973 and won more than 3,000 races over his two-decade career, died Friday morning of natural causes at his home in Canada, per the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. He was 84.

With Turcotte in the saddle, Secretariat powered to victory in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness in 1973 and then demolished the competition in the Belmont Stakes.

Hall of Fame jockey Ron Turcotte, who won the Triple Crown in 1973 with Secretariat, has died at the age of 84.
