Ludlow boys ice hockey rolled past Agawam, 8-1, in the Lions’ season-opener at the Olympia Ice Center. AJ Stupak starred for the Lions with two goals and two assists. Nick Deroin and Sean Kefalas matched Stupak with two goals each, with four other goal scorers opening their accounts on the season.

Parsippany Regional skated to a 9-1 victory over Newton-Lenape Valley at Skylands Ice World in Stockholm. The Vikings were led by Robert Hemenway, tallying 2 goals and six assists, while Sean Coyle had two goals and three assists.

Section 2 and the group representing the area's high school hockey officials were unable to agree to terms after four hours of talks on Wednesday.

Joshua Henderson’s hat trick powered Vernon to a 4-1 victory over High Point at Skylands Ice World in Stockholm. It is the first career hat trick for Henderson, a sophomore. Two of Henderson’s goals came in a second period which saw Vernon (1-1-1) score three in a row after falling behind 1-0.

The IIHF confirmed an Athletic report that the ice surfaces will be more than three feet shorter than the NHL ones agreed upon last summer.

Local organisers said on Wednesday that the main Olympic ice hockey venue in Milan will be in perfect condition after a senior NHL figure raised the prospect that top players could opt out if they felt the new surface is not safe.
