When multiple abbreviations/units appear for a concept below, the preferred ARUP style is bolded. Units of measure used in FDA-approved special kits will supersede ARUP-preferred style.

Our basic unit types (dimensions) are length (L), time (T ) and mass (M). When we do dimensional analysis we focus on the units of a physics equation without worrying about the numerical values.

Note: Unit conversion factors are always equal to 1. Therefore, when we multiply any measurement by a unit conversion factor, we are not changing the value of the measurement, only the units.
