The Umayyad Mosque (Arabic: الجامع الأموي, romanized: al-Jāmiʿ al-Umawī), also known as the Great Mosque of Damascus, located in the old city of Damascus, the capital of Syria, is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ revealed that Isa ibn Maryam عليه السلام would descend from the heavens towards the white minaret in Damascus. – Sunan Abi Dawud 4321. Hazrat Isa عليه السلام would be carried on the shoulders of two angels dressed in yellow clothes.

In another Hadith, the Prophet (ﷺ) mentioned, “Allah will send Maseeh ibne Maryam (Messiah son of Mary). Thus he will descend near the white eastern minaret of Damascus, clad in two yellow sheets, leaning on the shoulders of two angels.” [Sahih Muslim]

The Minaret of Isa, Madhana-i Isa (مئذنة عيسى, literally meaning the Minaret of Jesus), is one of the three minarets of the historic Great Mosque of Damascus. According to Islamic tradition it marks the spot Prophet Isa will come down (physically) before the Qiyamah (Judgement Day).

The White Minaret is a stone minaret beside the Aqsa Mosque in Qadian, Punjab. It was constructed under the direction of the Indian religious leader Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. It serves as a lighthouse symbolising the ultimate pre-eminence of Islam. [1]

Located in the heart of the city of Damascus, the great Umayyad mosque was founded by Caliph al-Walid I (ruled 705-715) upon his accession to the throne.

Jan 20, 2023 · Part of the uniqueness of the Great Mosque of Damascus, are its three distinctive minarets: Minaret of Qaitbay, Minaret of Isa (Jesus) and Minaret of the Bride.

The word ‘minaret’ was chosen to indicate that the land of Damascus will be illuminated and brightened in consequence of the supplications of the Promised Messiah after having been darkened by all sorts of innovations.

Dec 13, 2024 · According to a report from the Prophet Muhammad, Prophet Isa, son of Maryam, will descend at the white minaret on the eastern side of Damascus. Many scholars have interpreted this as a reference to the Umayyad Mosque.
