Today marks the 50th anniversary of the landfall of Hurricane Camille in 1969. There have been only four Category 5 hurricanes to make landfall in the United States, and Camille was one of them. The other three made landfall in Florida (Labor Day Storm, Andrew, and Michael). At that time, Camile's 24.6 ft storm surge was the highest surge on record in the Gulf of Mexico.
