During WWII in the escape proof Colditz Castle a group of British POWs led by RAF pilots Bill Goldfinch and Jack Best set out an unbelievable plan to fly to freedom. They secretly built a two man glider in an attic using bed slats, floorboards and cotton bedsheets sealed with a sticky millet porridge paste. The design boasted a 32 foot wingspan and weighed only 240 pounds, ready to launch off a 60 foot runway with a bathtub full of concrete. American forces liberated the castle before the escape
